Lee Chae Rin (이채린) or her stage name CL (씨엘) is Leader of South Korea girl group 2NE1. CL was born in Seoul, South Korea on February 26, 1991. CL's father a professor of physics but also an author for children's stories. Due to her father's occupation as a physics professor, she moved around as a child, she spent much of her early life in the United States, Japan and France where she learned EnglishFrench, and Japanese. Because the ability of English, Japanese, and French. CL frequent translator of foreign dancers who came to Korea.

Prior to joining YG Entertainment, CL had been a trainee under JYP Entertainment. Because it is close friends with the Wonder Girls' Sohee and Yeeun, 2PM's Junsu and 2PM's former member Jay Park, Secret's Zinger and Miss A's Min. In 2004, CL auditioned on YG Entertainment and become trainee under YG Entertainment. CL will initially be used as a solo singer, but because her strong karisma and great talent make CL was elected as 2NE1's leader. CL is a fashionista. On May 6, 2009 CL and her group 2NE1 released their single debut title "Fire". On May 17, 2009 they debuted on stage with their single debuted "Fire" at SBS Inkigayo. Before debuted CL and her group 2NE1 released the song "Lollipop" with her labelmate Bigbang for LG Electronics to promote their Cyon phone on March 27, 2009. Before debuted with 2NE1, in 2007 CL's first feature on a song recording was Bigbang's "Intro (Hot Issue)". In the end 2007, she had her first stage debut at Seoul Broadcasting System's Music Awards together with her label mates at YG Entertainment. In 2008, she featured Uhm Jung Hwa's "DJ," in which she rapped. CL also appeared on YMGA's track "What" as part of the YG Family. 

In August 2009, CL collaborated with label mates Bigbang's G-Dragon and 1TYM's Teddy Park  for "The Leaders". CL wrote her own lyrics to the song. CL also collaborated with her band mate Minzy for "Please Don't Go". On January 27, 2011, CL's vacation to Paris may have been to discuss her solo career. A YG Entertainment contact is said to have stated that she is to launch her solo career together with 2NE1's comeback.
